WORK EXPERIENCE

Assistant Professor, Georgia Southern University, August 2000 to present.

  Director, Center for Rural Health & Research - Duties include directing all administrative and research aspects of the Center for Rural Health & Research.

  Health Sciences Curriculum - Duties include teaching/participation at all levels in the undergraduate community health curriculum at Georgia Southern University. Classes taught include Epidemiology & Vital Statistics, Health Promotion Program Planning, and Senior Seminar. Additional duties include contributions to the University in the areas of public health research and service.

   Master of Public Health Curriculum - Duties include teaching/participation at all levels in the Masters of Public Health curriculum at Georgia Southern University (Full-time Graduate Faculty). Classes taught include Epidemiology, Health Promotion Planning & Evaluation, Community Health Analysis, and Health Behavior Theory.

Adjunct Faculty, Mercer University School of Medicine, August 2000 to 2002

   Medical Curriculum - Duties include acting as a consult to the Department of Community Medicine in matters related to training undergraduate medical students the concepts of population-based medicine.

Assistant Professor, Mercer University School of Medicine, August 1994 to 2000.

  Medical Curriculum - Duties include the management of all aspects (curricular design, implementation, teaching, and evaluation) of the problem-based medical curriculum administered through the Department of Community Medicine. The Department's curriculum centers around an evidence-based approach to medicine and includes the basic principles of prevention, public health practice, epidemiology, biostatistics, research design, rural medicine, and health care delivery.

  Master of Public Health Curriculum - Duties include the design, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the public health curriculum at the medical school. Teaching duties in the MPH curriculum include epidemiology, small area analysis, demographics and community health assessment.

   Preceptor Recruitment, Retention, and Development - Duties include assisting colleagues in the maintenance and improvement of the Department's statewide physician preceptor network.

   Research - Duties include collaboration in all areas of population-based medical research. Experience in this area includes surveillance of health related outcomes, community health assessments, health education and promotion, health planning, medical site/specialty preference, and rural health.

Research Assistant, University of South Carolina , July 1990 to May 1994.

   Research - Duties included the epidemiology, ecology, and control of vector-borne diseases. Specific areas of research included surveillance and control of tick populations as vectors of Lyme disease in coastal South Carolina . Additional research experience includes assistance with laboratory and field bioassays of vector susceptibility, improved methods of pesticide application used in vector control, and field evaluations of mosquito repellents.

   Teaching - Duties included participation in a variety of short courses offered to domestic and international students interested in vector ecology, control, bionomics and surveillance.

   International experience - Consisted of 2 weeks in the Dominican Republic assisting with the evaluation of chemical strategies for emergency Dengue control.

Research Assistant, Clemson University , August 1987 to December 1989.

   Research - Duties included the evaluation of Ophyra aenescens, a facultative predator, as an effective biological control alternative for managing house flies in poultry operations.
