Women In College
Thirty years ago fifty-five percent of the people that went to college were men compared to forty-five percent which were women.  In recent and current years women have gained and overtaken that statistic with a complete reversal.  Women now are at the fifty-five percent while men are at forty-five percent. Women are earning 130,000 more bachelor’s degrees then men.

This proves that many women are becoming more and more qualified for jobs.  The problem with this is that the women that are earning these bachelor degrees are earning them in positions that are not high paying jobs.

Earning Higher degrees

Although women are graduating more than men they still do not earn degrees in which they will be in a position for higher paying jobs.  Women need to concentrate more on high-tech jobs, and PhD’s.  Those jobs are the jobs that have high salaries, and right now men have the majority of these occupations.  Many women go for an education in liberal arts or social science degree’s which is just setting them up for jobs that pay less.  This statistic is a good reason why men have the uphold on higher paying jobs as of right now.

I do not believe the government should reserve a certain percentage of jobs for women.  If they are not going for the highest degrees possible, why should we reserve jobs for people who are not qualified for the jobs.  As long as she is qualified for the job the business will not overlook them.  Although businesses used to overlook them even if they were qualified times have changed.  There is no need for the government to have certain of jobs reserved for women.

Women and Their Children

Women also have a disadvantage of becoming pregnant.  This is a big disadvantage because that is a large amount of time away from work.  Many women do not like to leave their child alone with a nanny especially at such a young age.  During the first three years it is very important that the child is around someone that the parents trust, because “During this time, your child is becoming increasingly more mobile, and aware of himself and his surroundings.  Her desire to explore new objects and people is also increasing. During this stage, your toddler will show greater independence, begin to show defiant behavior, recognize himself in pictures or a mirror, and imitate the behavior of others, especially adults and older children.”

If the mother is not around this could affect the child for the rest of his or her life.  So, it is hard for businesses to hire a woman that will need to take that much time away from work, and the hiring paying jobs are a lot more demanding of time and require the employee to have a large commitment to their job.

In Women's Defense
At women’s defense in the past women have made substantially less a income per year than men.  Men earn 23 to 54 percent more than women in all age groups.  Women at every percentile level of their earnings distribution earn less than men at the same percentile level. The median annual salary for men is $38,000 and for women it is $26,000. Contributing to this discrepancy is the age gap within the industries themselves. For instance, the highest-paid occupation for men and for women is physicians and surgeons, but the female median $88,000 is only 63 percent of the male median $140,000.

Women have proved that they can hold jobs that are higher paying, and they deserve to have higher paying jobs.  At the same time I do not think that the government should reserve jobs for the women. However, after studying a number of those variables, the Bureau also concluded that "earnings between men and women that is unexplained, even after controlling for work experience to the extent it can be represented by age and presence of children, education, and occupation."
