Jim
McMillan is presently an
Associate Professor and Assistant Chair in the Jiann Ping Hsu School of
Public Health. He has been at Georgia Southern University since
Fall of 1986. Following seven years in the
United States Navy Submarine service (USS L. Mendel Rivers, SNN 686,
out of Charleston, SC), Jim completed an AA degree from Macon College,
BSED in HPE from Georgia Southern College, and Masters and EDD in
exercise physiology from Auburn University. He is currently
getting back into the teaching routine after completing two years as
Acting Chair. Jim is currently a member of the American College
of Sports Medicine, Southeastern ACSM, National Strength and
Conditioning Association, Georgia Association of Health, Physical
Education, Recreation, and Dance, and the Georgia Public Health
Association. His research interests include resistance training,
nutrition, and getting older (an ongoing area!). Jim very much
enjoys resistance training, aerobic activity (he has migrated from
jogging to mostly walking really fast), racquetball, and reading
mystery novels. He also plays golf five or six times a year
without much success. Jim is married to Caroline (twenty
years!!!) and between them have two daughters (Caroline and Margaret,
yes, twins) and two dogs (Mrs. Tiggywinkle and Bear - well they just
got this dog and haven't really settled on a name yet, maybe Frisky
Business?) This is Jim after testing his mountain trail skills at Kanuga, near Hendersonville, NC, summer, 2003. |
