Required Calculator: TI-89 (To be loaned by Dr. Abell)

 

Grading:  The grade in this course will be based on the points obtained through the completion of 6 quizzes (60 points); lab/homework (140 points); four tests (100 points each); and one comprehensive final exam (200 points).

Homework: Homework will be assigned on a daily basis.  Typically, these problems will not be handed in, but students should attempt to complete each assignment.  On several occasions, I will have the class hand in a collection of homework problems to be graded.  Homework must be turned in at the beginning of class on the day it is due.

 

Quizzes:  Six short 10 point quizzes will be given during the semester.

Quiz Dates: Jan. 13, 29; Feb. 12; March 11; April 1, 8

 

Tentative Test Dates: Test #1: Jan. 22; Test #2: Feb. 26, Test #3: March 25, Test #4: April 15

 

Absentee Policy:  No makeup tests or quizzes will be given.  If you receive an excused absence (death or serious illness in the family), the weight of the final will be increased to replace the missing score. 

 

Computer Assignments:  The Macintosh Computer Lab (MPP 3000) is reserved for our class each Monday, 12:00 - 12:50 p.m.  Each student should have a 3.5”, HD - high density disk for saving work.  I encourage you to work in groups of 2-3 students.  You may hand in one assignment per group.  Write ups of computer assignments should be done neatly and each problem clearly indicated.  Special attention should be given to answering follow-up questions to explain the results of the computer output.

 

Drop Date: The last day to withdraw from the course with a grade of W :  Monday, March 1.

Last Day of Classes: Monday, May 26

Holidays during the Semester: Jan. 19 (MLK Birthday); March 15-19 (Spring Break)

Final Exam:  Tuesday, April 27, 12:30-2:30 p.m.

 

Academic Dishonesty:  Cheating (or academic dishonesty) consists of the use of unauthorized material on an examination, test, or quiz.  Unauthorized material includes notes, books, information stored on calculators, or copying from another student.  Anyone caught cheating is subject to a grade of "F" in this course and possible dismissal from Georgia Southern University.
