On Monday, April 17, 2006 Georgia adopted one of the nation's most wide ranging pieces of legislation designed to curb the flow of undocumented migrants to the state. The bill, entitled SB 529-the Georgia Security and Immigration Compliance Act, will go into effect on July 1, 2007.

-
What will be the impact of this law for Georgians, immigrants, businesses, politicians?
The specifics of the bill and such questions will be explored in a series of special events being planned during the next 15 weeks of the academic term. A faculty committee, in collaboration with the Center for Latino Outreach at Georgia Southern University, is working to develop a special academic component aimed at raising knowledge and awareness about the bill. The component will be offered to students as a service learning component of their course curricula. Special activities and events will also be open to the larger university and non-university communities. |
