Midtern-Final Exam Prep

Remember, your midterm was practice for your final exam. The University requires that I make your exams count as 20% of your grade. In addition, you must pass the Regents Essay Exam before you accumulate 45 hours of credit in order to proceed with your undergraduate course requirements. Therefore, I have designed the midterm and the final to both prepare you for timed writing situations in general and the Regents Exam in particular.

Your midterm lets me and you know how well prepared you are for our final, the Regents, and other timed writing situations. We are using it primarily as a diagnostic tool. I have graded the midterm using the same 1-4 holistic scoring scale that is used on the Regents Exam. A 4 is a high pass, a 3 is a middle pass, a 2 is a low pass, and a 1 is a no-pass. This will translate, for the purposes of grading, as: 4=A, 3=B, 2=C, 1=D. If you are comfortable with your midterm score, you may choose to count it as 10% of your grade exam grade and count your final as 10%. You may also choose to count your final as the full 20% of your exam exit grade.

From November 2nd through December 9th, we will be preparing for the final exam. See your syllabus for specific information. If you received a 1, a 1/2, a 2, or a 2/3 on your midterm, you MUST schedule an appointment with me during the 12/2-9 timeframe to review your midterm and prepare for the final.
