Universities
may wish to consider developing meaningful learning
opportunities with The Bogside Artists in Northern
Ireland. In the past, students have held internships
in the studio and college classes have worked with
community outreach projects in Derry.
Recently, students from the University Honors Program
at Georgia Southern University spent a week with The
Bogside Artists during on an Honors Alternative Break
trip to Northern Ireland. Students worked alongside
artists Tom Kelly and Kevin Hasson on a project designed
to intertwine art and reconciliation. The project
involved the creation of a series of colorful panels
featuring images designed by area youth. These panels
will brighten the exterior of a community center in
Limavady, where Protestant and Catholic children can
come together to engage in dialogue and activities
that foster mutual understanding.
