Joanne Chopak-Foss is an Associate Professor of Public Health at Georgia Southern University.  She received her Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University in Health Education in August, 1993.  She holds an M.S. from Pennsylvania State University also in Health Education and a B.S. in Physical Education from the University of Delaware.  Her research interests focus on adolescent and women's health issues, including eating disorders, adolescent pregnancy and sexual health, curriculum development in health education and health issues facing rural communities.  She has published four book chapters, five articles and has made numerous presentations at state, regional and national conferences.  Her professional affiliations include The American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, The Georgia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and The American School Health Association.  Since joining Georgia Southern University in 1993, Joanne has been actively involved in curriculum development in both the health science and health and physical education pedagogy area.  She most enjoys teaching sexuality and drug education, school health methods and graduate classes in women's health and sexuality education for teachers.  Joanne has been the recipient of three Georgia Southern grants one for research and two for travel.  In addition, she has been active in service to the former department of Health and Kinesiology, now the Jiann Ping Hsu School of Public Health, the College of Health and Human Sciences and the University.  When not participating in academic pursuits, Joanne enjoys spending time with her family, both spectating and participating in a variety of athletic activities, going to the beach, reading and travel.
