I was
born in Smithfield, North Carolina (Johnston County). I spent my first six years
living in Selma, North Carolina (Johnston County). My parents moved to a house
about three miles outside the city limits of Selma when I was seven. I attended
Selma Elementary School, Harrison Junior High School and Smithfield Selma High
School. I received my undergraduate (2 degrees) and masters degrees from North
Carolina State University. I completed my doctorate at The University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill.
My career includes teaching high
school in the North Carolina Public School System and teaching at two institutions
of higher education: California State Polytechnic University Pomona and Georgia
Southern University. I am currently teaching at Georgia Southern University
in the Department of Middle Grades and Secondary Education. I work in the area
of middle grades and secondary mathematics education. My research emphasis in
the impact of technology on the teaching and learning process.
My two main hobbies are golf and gardening.
