CHFD 2137 Lifespan Development
Investigates
human development throughout the lifespan as influenced by the family
and society. Emphasis is placed on the physical, intellectual, and psycho-social
development processes.

4134 Family Life Education
A
dynamic, growing field that truly puts learning into action! The purpose
of family life education is to teach individuals and families (adolescent-adult)
about various family life topics including parenting education, sexuality
education, marriage enrichment, nutrition, child care, career counseling,
social skills, and more. Family Life Educators are employed in a variety
of settings including social service agencies, county extension and 4-H,
counseling, and marriage preparation to name a few. In this course students
learn about the 10 content areas of family life education and how to implement
adult teaching methods and create programs and curricula.
Description from Course Catalog: An introduction to programs, procedures,
techniques, resources, and counseling skills needed to promote an understanding
of family life education through the life cycle. Prerequisite:
CHFD 2134. This course is currently offered in Spring
semester.
CHFD
3139 Parenting
The
structure, function, and process of parenting are explored. An emphasis
is placed on understanding characteristics of parents and parenting behavior
and their consequences on children and parent-child relationships. Prerequisites:
CHFD 2134 and CHFD 2135. A variety of topics are covered including
the decision to become a parent, teen and at-risk parenting, dual-employed
parenting issues, parenting children with special needs, fertility issues
and treatments, parenting education programs, and parenting in diverse
cultures and lifestyles. This course is currently offered in Fall and
Spring semesters.
FACS
4138 Professional Development
A
study of the unique and complex nature of communication within the family
with specific application to careers in family and consumer sciences.
Involves discussion of current issues and topics with a focus on professional
ethics, professional employment opportunities, internships, development
and growth, and current research themes within the profession. Currently,
this course is offered in Fall and Spring semesters. Should be
taken one to two semesters prior to CHFD 4790.
CHFD
4790 Internship in Child and Family Development
Supervised
experience in Child and Family Development which requires the student
to employ the knowledge base acquired. Site is selected by the student
and approved by the internship supervisor. Students will work full-time
for the entire semester. Offered Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
