Internship Central

Welcome Current and Prospective CHFD Interns!

This webpage is intended to keep you informed of announcements, due dates, meeting dates, and anything else pertaining to internship. This page will be updated each semester.

Prior to internship, each student must purchase a copy of the "Internship Manual for CHFD 4790" in the GSU Bookstore or from Eagle Print Shop. This manual should be read carefully PRIOR to the Internship Meeting the semester BEFORE internship begins. Due dates for forms will be announced during the Internship Meeting. DUE DATES MUST BE STRICTLY FOLLOWED!

Looking for a Family Life Education Internship?
Dr. Dilworth has a list of sites throughout the state. There are several here in Statesboro that include enough FLE content to apply towards your certification. See me if you want a list of FLE-oriented internship sites.

Initiating an Internship Placement with a New Site

We have a list of internship sites where CHFD students have completed internships in the past. This is a good starting point to begin your internship search. You are not required to intern at an established site: you can request permission from the Internship Supervisor to intern at a new site. Before this approval can be obtained, you must collect information about the site and its clients and programs. You will also need to determine what your duties will be at the site. You may only intern at a site where your duties are consistent with the child and family development major. When you make contact with a potential site, you will need to explain what will be required of the site. You can obtain this information from the Internship Manual and from the following guide. Please give the potential site a copy of this guide!

Forms Required for Internship

Special Instructions: please read BEFORE using the forms! The pdf forms (first 5 forms on list) require Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 (a free download). Pdf forms have editable fields that allow you to type in information. However, you CANNOT SAVE the form with your info. Therefore, you want to type and print these forms only once! Do not type the Internship Application Form until all objectives have been approved by both your CHFD advisor and your site supervisor! The last 5 forms on the list are in WORD format and can be saved to your computer. There are two versions of the Weekly Time Record: the pdf version automatically calculates total time for each week but cannot be saved; the WORD version can be saved to your desktop.

Final Evaluation Form for Site Supervisor

One of the most frequently-asked questions for internship is "what should I do as a special project? There are no hard and fast rules about what type of project to do. First, ask your site supervisor about any projects they would like you to do. At some sites, there may be major projects that they want accomplished but no one there has any time to complete. After getting ideas from your site supervisor, discuss them with your CHFD internship supervisor. He/she will help you decide on a final project idea and give you guidelines about what is expected. You must provide documentation of the project including hours spent in each stage of the project and "evidence" of its completion such as pictures, notebooks, posters, written summary, etc. The final project is due at the Final Internship Seminar at the end of your internship.

Shown below are examples of special projects completed by previous interns. You are NOT limited to one of this ideas, but they may help you decide what to do. DO NOT BEGIN YOUR SPECIAL PROJECT UNTIL YOUR INTERNSHIP SUPERVISOR HAS APPROVED IT!
