Professional CV
Dr. Hodges teaches in the Instructional Technology program at Georgia Southern University, which is part of the Department of Leadership, Technology, and Human Development in the College of Education. He has been teaching at the university level since 1994 and has taught at small (Concord University) and large (Virginia Tech) institutions. His background includes experience teaching Math as well as Education. In Virginia, he also assisted middle school students with their multimedia needs for National History Day. Dr. Hodges believes that the primary role of the instructional designer is to be an advocate for learners, and that reflection through formative evaluation is essential. Thus, he identifies well with the Georgia Southern University College of Education's Conceptual Framework, Reflective Educators for Diverse Learners.
Before joining the Georgia Southern faculty, he was a Senior Instructor in the Department of Mathematics at Virginia Tech where he was twice recognized as Math Instructor of the Year. For several years at Virginia Tech he managed the Advanced Technology Learning Center, commonly known as the Math Emporium.
Teaching and Research
Dr. Hodges loves teaching. He especially likes teaching Instructional Design, which he does regularly. In addition to Instructional Design, he has recently taught courses on Multimedia Authoring and Analysis & Evaluation in Instructional Technology.
To stay current in the world of Education and Instructional Design & Technology, Dr. Hodges conducts research and is an active member in professional organizations. He conducts research mainly in the area of learner self-efficacy and self-regulation in online or technology enhanced learning environments. His research has been published in the Journal of Educational Computing Research, Performance Improvement Quarterly, the Journal of Research in Education, and the Quarterly Review of Distance Education, among others.
