Our Mission
As its vision, the Consortium believes that fostering successful urban and rural development depends upon a a rich, deep and innovative culture of the humanities. The mission of the Consortium is to demonstrate this vision through projects, fellowships and partnerships. Consortium projects highlight the rich history, cultural depth and ecological diversity of the region. They encourage a more global outlook among institutions and residents. They foresee a dynamic and sustainable future in business, trade and technology that respects and fosters the cultural traditions and ecological riches of the coastal region. To achieve this, it sponsors projects both directly relevant to the region's rich traditions, ecologies and creative communities as well as those designed to build bridges to cultural, artistic and historical traditions that can help make the humanities more vibrant in the region. To foster this process the Consortium is growing a cooperative network of individuals, higher learning institutions, arts centers, libraries, historical societies, businesses and community organizations.
The Consortium welcomes input, involvement and investment from outside of its target region. It focuses its efforts on the coastal region of southeast Georgia and South Carolina--including the following metro areas, counties and watersheds:
